Are you looking for a fun, interactive and one-of-a-kind camping experience for your school age kiddo? Hickory Knolls Discovery Center has you covered! Throughout the year we offer unique, nature-themed camps for children ages 2-12.
Summer Nature Camps
These unique outdoor education programs have been put into a fun, camp format and are designed to encourage children to enjoy, respect and learn about our natural world. Summer 2016 offerings included:
Camp at Delnor Woods Park – For Our Youngest Naturalists
Wee Wonders Camp – Multiple Dates from 9:30am-10:30am
Ages 2-4 with an adult
Inspire your little one to explore as you share the joy of nature together. Learn about the differences between amphibians, birds and mammals with some help from Sesame Street friends. Closed-toe shoes are required for both adults and children. This camp is appropriate for children who have not attended preschool. Adults are free.
Nature Discoverers Camp – Multiple Dates from 9:15am-11:15am
A perfect camp for your little naturalist! Discover nature in the woods, fields and along the pond edge. Make simple crafts. Play a variety of educational and fun games. Must be age 3 by January 1, 2018 and potty trained. No diapers. Camp designed for children who have attended preschool.
Camps at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center – For Young Naturalists
Must be age 5 by September 1, 2017 and entering grades K-2.

Dino Diggers – Jun 11-15, Jul 30-Aug 3 from 9am-12pm
Dig your way into the past as you see what is hidden underground. From fabulous fossils to muddy masterpieces this camp will make your paleontologist smile.
Superheroes of Nature – Jun 18-22, Aug 6-10 from 9am-12pm
How does Batman stack up to the senses of the native bats or Spiderman senses compare to real spiders? See how super nature is through hikes and hands-on challenges
Crafty Critter – Jul 9-13 from 9am-12pm
Get your creative juices moving as you glue, paint and hike your way through the woods, prairie and creek.
Super Scientists – Jul 16-20 from 9am-12pm
From meteorologist to geologist and biologist to herpetologist, this camp will feed the curiosity of your emerging scientist.
Animal Architects – Jul 23-27 from 9am-12pm Ages 5-7
From hives to tunnels and nests to beaver dams, animals have built it all-What will you find and construct during this camp?
Messy Masters – Jul 23-27 from 9am-12pm Ages 5-7

Science Sleuths- Jun 11-15 from 9am-12pm
New this year- Who? What? When? Where? and Why? Use the clues animals have left behind to solve the mysteries found in nature. You will see there is more than meets the eye.
Outlast the Elements Camp Jun 18-22, Jul 30-Aug 3 from 9am-12pm
What is your nature skill level? Spend time learning survival skills like fire starting, shelter building, foraging, tracking and more to help you outlast the elements in the great outdoors.
Naturally Artistic Camp – July 9-13, 2018 from 9am-12pm
Unleash your inner artist with a touch of the wild side. Explore the outdoors to see how nature has been creative, then use that inspiration make a different art piece each day.
Make a Difference – Jun 25-29 from 9am-12pm
What is your nature skill level? Go behind the scenes of the Knolls as you get a chance to help with animal care, control invasive species and head off site for two service project field trips.
STEM Explorers – July 23-27, 2018 from 9am-12pm
Can you be as creative as nature? Discover the strategies plants and animals have developed to survive and test your skills through hands-on experiments.
Mad Scientist- Jul 16-20 from 9am-12pm
Mix, concoct, and create with nature-themed madness and fun. Thursday’s camp is held from 6-9pm.
Weird Nature Aug 6-10 from 9am-12pm
You can find some unusual things in nature that will amaze any budding scientist. Get your hands into some really wacky experiments.
Full and Extended Day Nature Camps
Wet-n-Wild Camp – Multiple Dates from 9am-4:30pm
Time to go outside and play! Spend the day hiking, crafting and taking part in excellent field trip adventures. When the temperature starts to climb in the afternoons, campers will go swimming at Otter Cove. Closed-toe shoes required. During inclement weather, camp will be held indoors. Bring a lunch every day. Must be age 5 by September 1, 2017 and entering grades 1-8.
Nature Camp Early Drop Off – Multiple Dates from 7:15am-9am
Designed with working parents in mind! Early drop-off is convenient for caregivers while also offering campers the chance to participate in nature-themed activities and ease into the day. Children must be enrolled in a nature camp at Hickory Knolls to take advantage of this special program.

Camp instructors are students, teachers and subject area experts trained in CPR and First Aid with extensive experience working with children.
