Early in the springtime, the salamanders of our area begin their trip from their winter homes to the ponds where they will breed.
Because salamanders are an indicator of the health of an ecosystem we monitor their population. Your family can be a part of this citizen scientist effort.
Meet at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center to first learn about salamanders and then hike out to check our monitoring traps. Help collect data before releasing our amphibian friends. Salamander activity in the wild is subject to overnight conditions.
Dress for outdoor conditions that may include cold, mud and wet ground.
